Tax credits help boost house sales in Richmond area

Chris Chmura was quoted in a recent article by Carol Hazard of the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

Christine Chmura of Chmura Economics & Analytics in Richmond said prices in the Richmond region are stabilizing. "Overall, we are close to turning the corner on housing prices."

The extension and expansion of housing credits did not help the housing market at least through January and February, Chmura said.

People who were serious about buying houses may have made their purchases last fall before the credit was first set to expire, she said.

But the weather was bad in the first two months of the year, which could have kept people from getting out and looking at houses, she said.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a bounce in March and April," she said.
